Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry involves dental procedures that restore damaged teeth. For example: fillings, dental implants, crowns and bridges.

White Fillings

White or 'tooth-coloured' fillings (formally called composite fillings) are able to closely match the colour of a patient's tooth. Because they blend with the natural tooth, composite fillings are less noticeable than previous materials used, like silver fillings. As part of the process, Dr. Toong employs a state-of-the-art light system to harden filling material to fill the cavity space. Modern composite fillings are quite strong and tend to be more aesthetically pleasing. Through regular maintenance and dental care, a filling can last as long as a natural tooth.

Dental Implants

When is an implant the best option?
Dental ImplantsA dental implant may be required to fill the space where a tooth extraction has occurred. This procedure involves implanting a permanent titanium-based anchor into the bone to secure a replacement tooth. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth. The replacement tooth is made to match your natural teeth. With modern advancements and dental health improvements, implants are very comfortable and a great alternative to partial or full dentures.

Planning the position and number of implants required
Dr. Toong is certified as a specialist in Dental Anesthesia, which means that at Asleep for Dentistry, you can sleep or be sedated while you receive your dental implant. To begin, several x-rays of the jaw and head are taken to determine suitability for implant surgery. A patient without significant bone loss in the affected area, and who is in general good health with healthy gums, is an ideal candidate for dental implants. The next step is to implant the post which will be used to keep the new tooth in place. Once the area has successfully healed and the jaw is ready to support the new tooth or teeth, they will be attached to the post. With proper oral health care, implants can last a lifetime!

Crowns & Bridges

Crowns & BridgesAfter root canal therapy, dental restoration begins by capping the tooth with a dental crown to fully cover and support the tooth while protecting the root canal treatment. A crown is a tooth shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth. Crowns are generally used for restoration purposes, but are also used in aesthetic procedures where a veneer is not suitable. The crown, when cemented into place, will fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. The crown covers the tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and improve its appearance.

How does a bridge differ from a crown?
A dental bridge is used when additional support to the teeth or implants is necessary. A removable bridge is used to restore the natural bite for ease and comfort while eating. Traditionally made out of porcelain and metal, bridges are made today from the same material as crowns to restore areas of the mouth that are in need of support where teeth have been removed. A bridge can be anchored to existing teeth or a dental implant in the affected area.

Dr. Toong will recommend the appropriate treatment method after assessing the condition of your oral health and gums.
